Your Privacy is Important
We recognize that your privacy is important. This document outlines the types of personal information we receive and collect when you use Georgia Carter Mathers, as well as some of the steps we take to safeguard information. We hope this will help you make an informed decision about sharing personal information with us.
Georgia Carter Mathers strives to maintain the highest standards of transparency, decency, fairness and integrity in all our operations. Likewise, we are dedicated to protecting our customers’, consumers’ and online visitors’ privacy on our website.
Georgia Carter Mathers collects personally identifiable information from the visitors to our website only on a voluntary basis.
Personal information collected on a voluntary basis may include name and email address.
This information is collected if you request information from us, participate in a contest or sweepstakes, and sign up to follow Georgia through the email list or request some other service or information from us.
The information collected is internally reviewed, used to improve the content of our website, notify our visitors of updates, and respond to visitor inquiries.
Once information is reviewed, it is discarded or stored in our files.
If we make material changes in the collection of personally identifiable information we will inform you by placing a notice on our site.
Personal information received from any visitor will be used only for internal purposes and will not be sold or provided to third parties.
The popups and comments used on this website use functional cookies. Cookies are identifiers that are transferred to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser to enable our system to recognize your browser. The cookies are valid for 365 days.
The purpose of a cookie is to tell the web server that you have come to the site for the first time, or have returned to a specific page.
If you personalize the site’s pages, or register with any of our site’s services, a cookie enables Georgia Carter Mathers to recall your specific information on subsequent visits.
You have the ability to accept or decline cookies by modifying settings in your browser; however, if you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to fully experience the interactive features of the site.
This means that if you have already been presented with a popup and you have declined the cookies, the system may not recognize you.
It may think you are a new visitor to the website and present you with the same popup.
Georgia Carter Mathers uses web beacons.
A web beacon is a transparent image file used to monitor your journey around a single website or collection of sites. They are also referred to as web bugs.
They are commonly used by sites that use third-party services such as Google Analytics to monitor website traffic.
Social Media Sharing and privacy
This site uses a social media sharing plugin to make it easier for visitors to share the information and pages they want to share with their friends.
The plugin sends a request to third party APIs via your web browser to fetch information (like social shares). This request is made by the web browser, and it may include your IP address, which can then be seen by the social media application. This API request doesn’t include any personal data other than the IP address. The plugin data is stored within the database of this website, but is not available to me. It is just data useful to the functioning of the social media plugin.
The information provided by Google Analytics helps businesses to decide whether they are providing content that interests their audiences.
Georgia Carter Mathers uses Google Analytics to monitor the activity, country, gender, age, and interests of visitors to this site in association with cookies to understand how visitors interact with the pages and content on this site.
This, however, does not mean that the gender, age and interests of any one visitor can be determined, rather, the information is general in nature.
Browsers can be set to accept or reject cookies automatically, or notify you when a cookie is being requested. Privacy software can be used to override web beacons.
In compliance with the EU GDPR, this website uses software to allow you to accept or decline cookies, however, you may experience repeated popups, or this may effect your experience of the site.
This data is kept on the Google Analytics system for a period of 26 months, after which it is deleted. Google Analytics doesn’t collect any personally identifying information.
I don’t use the re-marketing features of Google Analytics or on social media, basically because I find this to be an invasive, and I don’t like it when it happens to me.
What happens when I comment at Georgia Carter Mathers?
This website uses either your Google or Facebook login to sign-in for the comments. Therefore it accesses your profile picture, name, email address, IP address, your web browser User Agent from either your Google or Facebook accounts. This may allow Facebook and / or Google to monitor your interactions with the commenting interface.
Google sends a random code to third-party sites (such as this one) to enable you to sign in using your Google Account. This code doesn’t reveal any personal information. See Google’s page about this. Please see Facebook’s privacy page. You can also read more about Facebook’s data policy here.
When visitors leave comments on the site without logging in, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
When you comment the first time here at Georgia Carter Mathers, you will be sent to a page where you will be given two free gifts. No email address required, just two free gifts, a welcome to the site, and a run-down on how the comments work. The second time you comment, you will be given the opportunity to share your comment on social media.
Your information remains private if you decide to follow me by signing up to the newsletter at Georgia Carter Mathers. I use this information for the sole purpose of providing you with the most entertaining content I can.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link included in any of the newsletters I send. The newsletter subscriptions are set up to send you content you’re interested in, such as reviews of particular types of books that you might want to read, promotional discounts, and much more.
Upon subscribing, you will be sent only the kind of information requested (only reviews or only promotional discounts or only new release information). After you’ve subscribed, you will be sent a welcome newsletter and website updates according to your preferences.
If you have not chosen a particular area of interest (i.e. reviews, or free six chapters of Trelloran Seduction), you will be sent a selection of website updates and information about my new releases. You can indicate your specific area of interest at any time through the preference link included in each email I send.
Basically, I will only ever send you content you’re interested in, and if I am not hitting that mark, please don’t be afraid to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. I will do everything I can to rectify that.
Instafreebie giveaway signups
If you decide to subscribe during the process of an Instafreebie giveaway, your information (name or email address) is not provided to any other parties automatically.
Instafreebie receives your information and uses this information for the purpose of sending you the book you want to read.
Unless you subscribe to an author’s or the Instafreebie mailing list, then nothing else is done with that information beyond sending you the book.
Georgia Carter Mathers uses Instafreebie giveaways as a quick and easy way to give the reader a chance to decide whether they like the story before they buy.
In the process of claiming an Instafreebie e-book giveaway, the reader is also given the opportunity of signing up to my newsletter and becoming a member of the community here.
Up until May 10, 2018, the reader subscribed in return for the free book. However, as of May 10, 2018, to subscribe to the newsletter through the Instafreebie method, the reader will need to check the box that appears when the reader clicks on an Instafreebie book.
This ensures that the reader has definitely given consent to join the newsletter and this community here.
Newsletter Communications and MailChimp
Georgia Carter Mathers uses a third party email company called MailChimp to send you email communications.
MailChimp is a large email provider that is widely used by many different types of businesses.
When you subscribe to one or more of the newsletters, all information is kept on the MailChimp servers.
I never add a reader manually, and I never export or import information to or from the MailChimp system.
Surveys, Quizzes and Polls
Surveys and polls on this website collect information that help me provide content that you want to consume. I don’t collect personally identifying information through these surveys. All the information is anonymous.
Some quizzes and surveys include an option to sign up to a newsletter. However, the quizzes and surveys don’t automatically sign up the user to a newsletter. The user has to manually enter their details and then click on the confirmation link sent to their email to subscribe to a particular newsletter, so the user is completely aware of what they will be getting.
Surveys and polls administered through MailChimp collect similar information, but it is possible for me to see which of you gave which response. Although this information is available to me, generally, I am only interested in the percentages. For example, if I ask you to rate whether the newsletter was informative and most of you rated it as a 3, this would indicate to me that I need to provide you with better content.
MailChimp Web Beacons
MailChimp uses web beacons to monitor behavior such as who opened the emails and who clicked the links and provides this information to me about the emails I’ve sent.
Web beacons allow MailChimp to collect information about when you open the email, your location, your browser, and other similar details.
Apart from the MailChimp service, no other entity has access to this information. It is collected purely for the purposes of staying in touch with you and to provide the best possible content I can.
However, because of the size of the newsletter list and the fact that I am busy writing books, I never interact with subscribers’ information on a one-to-one level. I am really only interested in whether open and click rates have declined, in which case, I have to pull my socks up. 🙂
If you respond to one of my emails with a reply, this is the only time I will interact with you on a one-to-one basis.
Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act
This website is directed to individuals eighteen and over; it is not directed to individuals under this age. All of our marketing and outreach efforts are direct at individuals over the age of eighteen, and indeed my analytics indicates that no one under eighteen views this site. The majority are aged over thirty five.
I operate this site in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, and will not knowingly collect or use personal information from anyone under 18 years of age.
What happens when you purchase a book from me?
When you purchase a book from me, I receive notification from Paypal that a purchase has been made. Paypal provides me with your email address. I use this email address to send you the book you purchased.
I’ll send you a personal thank you and links to the mobi (Kindle) and epub files associated with the book you’ve purchased. I’ll also send you a customer service email two weeks after your purchase to check on how you went with the book. I use MailChimp to send you the thank you and customer service emails, so please read the privacy considerations above.
Your contact details are NOT used for any other purpose, and you are not automatically subscribed to a newsletter when you buy something. I hate that when that happens to me, and I wouldn’t do it to you. If you want to subscribe however, go to the home page and fill in your details in the follow box. 🙂
I use Google Adwords to drive traffic to the product pages, and I track the effectiveness of this advertising through tracking code. This tracking code does not identify you at all. It only tracks a users journey to website, through to the purchase pages, so that I can see how effective the advertising is.
In some cases, we may collect information about you that is not personally identifiable. We use this information, which does not identify individual users, to analyze trends, to administer the site, to track users’ movements around the site and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole. The information collected is used solely for internal review and not shared with other organizations for commercial purposes.
Release of Information
If Georgia Carter Mathers is sold, the information we have obtained from you through your voluntary participation in our site may transfer to the new owner as a part of the sale in order that the service being provided to you may continue. In that event, you will receive notice through our website of that change in control and practices, and we will make reasonable efforts to ensure that the purchaser honors any opt-out requests you might make of us.
