Adelaide has dropped out of university because of a family tragedy. Her parents were killed, and she’s been left to take care of her teenage sister, Sophie. I couldn’t help but fall in love with her little sister.
The whole scenario made me think back to my own time when I was in university and I needed to go home to a family crippled with trauma.
It was heartbreaking, and that is how it is for Adelaide.
A heroine you can rely on
Adelaide has no money, but she’s taking Sophie to the only safe place she knows. Wow, what a heroine. I love her for that!
But she doesn’t realize this safe place is actually a dangerous place for shifters like them.
And that’s when she meets her heroes.

Now, when you trip and fall, and a strong hand stops you from hitting the ground, that has to be good. But when that strong hand is attached to a sexy hero with ‘sparking clear-blue eyes’, that’s even better!
Adelaide finds herself face to face with Rick. He lives next door with his brother and two friends. Josh is his brother, and Nate and Mich are their friends, but they’re all more than human. They’re all half-breeds, having been born to witches, vampires, shifters, and demons.
Josh and Mich have the most formidable personalities. Josh hides some dark secrets about himself, and Mich doesn’t want to endanger their mission to rescue their own kind from the supernatural hunters.
And that’s where Adelaide comes in, because she’s been offered a job right in the middle of it.
This story continues into book 2, but it’s a great introduction to Adelaide’s story. I give it 5 out of 5. The story is enthralling, and the pixie is great entertainment. If you love stories about strong heroines, you’ll love this one.
